The “Arena” arrived yesterday. I immediately put away the old bed and set up the new cat basket! I’m absolutely thrilled with it; I really like it, and it blends beautifully with the rest of the décor. Even more important, of course, is that my cats took to it right away. The right dog cushion for a dog with a handicap

The joints of an amputee animal are exposed to much greater stress due to the missing leg and the joints can wear out more quickly. This is precisely why the correct and optimal lying position must be the most important criterion for choosing the best dog cushion for a handicapped dog.

Commercially available animal beds are usually made of foam with too low a density, leftover thin polyester fleece or polystyrene balls. As a rule, these dog cushions are much too thin and do not retain their shape sufficiently. This means that the dog is lying on the hard, cold floor within a short time. Especially for a handicapped animal, you need a dog cushion that offers precise support for the joints with the necessary point elasticity.

About a year ago I bought an orthopedic LOUNGE dog cushion for our three-legged dog Lottie, a Parson Russell Terrier. Lottie loves the dog bed and sleeps very well on it. The support the cushion offers is excellent. Now we want Lottie to sleep just as comfortably in the kitchen and have decided to buy another DIVAN dog cushion. It is a bit lower because Lottie sometimes has problems jumping onto the higher LOUNGE cushion.

 

The DIVAN Uno dog bed with a head cushion in graphite (80 x 65 cm) arrived this afternoon. Lottie, our Parson Russell Terrier who had to have a leg amputated a few years ago before we adopted him, sometimes has difficulty getting up if the cushion is too soft and springy. It is very important for Lottie to have soft but stable support for her body. And that is what she now has with this orthopedic dog cushion. Within half an hour she had made herself comfortable and she especially loves to bury her little nose under the pillow. It was very difficult to take a nice photo now! To prevent Lottie from rolling into the small gap between the window and the pillow, we closed it with a not so pretty roll.

Puppy chews everything – what can I do?

How do I stop my puppy from chewing everything? How do I stop my dog ​​from biting furniture, tearing wallpaper, chewing shoes, and gnawing on cables and other things? Unwanted chewing is not only destructive and expensive when it is done on the couch or personal items. Chewing on electrical cables is dangerous and in the worst case scenario it can cost the dog its life. The fact is that no puppy destroys things because it wants to annoy you. There are other reasons behind its bad behavior, which we will try to get to the bottom of here.

Make the apartment puppy-proof.

Put away all valuable items that could be dangerous for the dog. Remove electrical cables from the area that the dog can access and secure the sockets with child safety locks. Do not leave any clothing or other items that are important to you lying around. The trash can should also be out of reach of the small dog.

Rule out illness.

In very rare cases, unwanted chewing can be a sign of illness. It is extremely rare for a brain tumor or thyroid disease to cause this change in the dog’s personality. When you take your little dog to the vet, ask for his opinion.

Is your puppy teething?

Puppies are naturally curious and explore their environment with their mouths just like small children do. To properly explore their environment, they put interesting objects in their mouths and chew on them. This increases significantly when the second teeth come through between the third and seventh month. When teething, small dogs have a special need to constantly gnaw on something. Chewing is the best way to make the pain more bearable.

Offer your dog alternatives that are more interesting than your furniture and taste better. Get special chews from the dog shop. If these don’t have the desired effect, you can rub them with peanut butter or bacon to make them more attractive to the little one.

Does your puppy seek attention?

The dog wants your attention, even if it is negative attention. Negative attention is better than no attention. If the dog is not given enough time and his social needs are not met, he will misbehave to get your attention.

Keep your dog mentally and physically occupied to burn off his excess energy. A quick walk around the block is not enough. Take long walks in nature, let him swim or go jogging with him. You know your dog best and will know what kind of exercise he enjoys.

Does the dog have separation anxiety?

To track down this phenomenon, it is helpful to observe your dog with a camera when he is home alone. If your puppy starts chewing on everything and “letting off steam” immediately after you leave the house, this can be a sign of separation anxiety and stress management. A dog usually becomes restless and starts barking or howling as soon as it notices that you want to leave the house without it. For this type of anxiety and stress management, your dog needs special training from an experienced dog trainer.

Your puppy is suffering from a lack of exercise and is bored.

Once you have installed the camera, you can see if your puppy starts chewing after you have left the house. In this case, boredom may be a trigger for the destructive behavior. Under-stimulated dogs tend to find their own tasks to keep themselves physically and mentally occupied. For example, they will investigate the garbage or chew your leash to satisfy their curiosity and relieve excess energy.

Make sure the little puppy gets enough exercise and mental stimulation so that it can relieve its excess energy. There are many toys you can make yourself that will keep the dog occupied while you are away.

Thank you very much also on behalf of my 4 cats for the great divan cat cushion and the replacement cover. We were all very happy about it and tested everything straight away. As always, best quality and outstanding comfort…

Exactly the right thing for my rascals, as three of the four are already over 10 years old and are basically in advanced cat age. There’s a pinching and aching in your bones. And since a cat sleeps almost all day, it should also lie comfortably. My Lucky had a herniated disc a year ago and had to have surgery. She particularly enjoys the comfort of the cat bed.

The youngest cat, Mikesch II, also appreciates the advantages of the pillows. It has the most space as a “half portion”. She immediately noticed that it was particularly easy to sleep on.

The cat beds are also very visually appealing. Thanks to the wide range of colors, there is something to suit every taste and every home furnishing.

I placed the first two cat cushions outside in the garden and I have to say that they held up very well despite the wind and weather. The covers are very easy to wash, especially if you have covers to change :-). The sun has faded the color a bit, but it’s even and so it’s not noticeable. Since the cushions are actually only intended for the inside of the house, I used them for a slightly different purpose. But the cats loved the pillows. Especially on colder evenings, because the covers are cozy and warm.

I didn’t wash the inner pillow and its contents; to be honest, I didn’t dare do that because the washing machine was so full with the large pillows that I had to take the pillow out again. I was afraid that there would be no room for the water in the drum. But washing the covers is enough.
